Phillip Schofield: Gun laws a greater threat than terrorists
The US president revealed he plans to enforce a travel ban, which would suspend immigration from seven countries with predominantly Muslim populations.
Speaking during an interview on the ITV show, the pastor, who supported Donald Trump throughout his presidential campaign, said it was a necessary move to protect American citizens.
He told hosts Phillip and Holly Willoughby: "I think we need to remember how he became President. I helped promote his agenda in the campaign, which stated America first.
"Why don't people understand what that means? Putting American citizens first."
Pastor Mark Burns and Kevin Maguire debated Donald Trump's state visit
Phillip Schofield snapped at Mark and said that Trump's ban would not protect US citizens
More Americans have been killed with your gun rules than a terrorist
But the 54-year-old clearly did not agree with his comments as he snapped back: "You don't protect your citizens. You shoot each other. Gun control is a far greater threat to safety than any terrorist. More Americans have been killed with your gun rules than a terrorist."
Journalist Kevin Maguire, who was also a guest on the ITV show, argued that the ban was dangerous and would drive youngsters into the hands of extremists.
He explained: "You might as well be a recruitment driver for ISIS. The fanatics want a war between the WEst and Muslims even though there isn't one. [Trump] is part of that."
Thousands lined the streets of cities in the UK last night to protest his state visit while a petition for the trip to be cancelled has reached over one and a half million signatures.
The Pastor insisted that the travel ban was a necessary move
Phillip and Holly asked if Donald Trump should cancel his state visit
Holly asked the pastor: "How is Trump going to feel about Britain reacting this way? Should he withdraw from visiting the country?"
Pastor Mark insisted: "Your Prime Minister made it clear the UK and US has a very special relationship. A protest is not an issue to the president, what is more important is results. A stronger UK is a stronger America."
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30pm.
