How does A Series Of Unfortunate Events end? Spoilers for Netflix's Lemony Snicket series
EAGER fans of Netflix’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events are looking to Lemony Snicket’s original books for spoilers about how the show will end.
Trailer: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
With just eight episodes in the first season, many fans have already binged their way through Netflix's A Series Of Unfortunate Events and are hungry for more.
Unlike the aborted Lemony Snicket film series, which adapted the first three books – The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room and The Wide Window – as one film, the new series is expected to tell the full tale of the Baudelaire orphans.
Season one was drawn from the first four books in author Daniel Handler's 13-part series.
Handler, who is an executive producer on the new series, is currently working on a second season to cover books five to nine and has plans for a third to complete the story.
Fans of the novels will have noticed that Handler has made several changes for the show including the introduction of new characters such as Jacquelyn, Mother and Father.
When asked whether the show will continue to diverge from the books, Handler told EW: “I would say that the destination is the same, but the route is different.”
So how will the story end? Here is everything you need to know, with spoilers for future seasons.
A Series Of Unfortunate Events is set to continue for another two season
Season two will adapt the middle five books in the series
After leaving the Lucky Strike Mill the Baudelaires live with a string of guardians before they are framed for Count Olaf’s murder and are forced to go on the run.
Olaf, who is alive and well, continues to pursue the children while they live as exhiles and uncover the truth about the secret organisation VFD, which is revealed to stand for Volunteer Fire Department.
It is never made clear exactly what VFD does, but it is said that they mainly put out fires and carry out other heroic acts using disguises and codes.
Count Olaf will continue to hound the children throughout the series
The End will see the Baudelaires on a boat once more, as they wash up on a mysterious island
The children learn that at some point a schism occurred which split VFD into two sides – fire-starters such as Olaf, and fire-fighters such as the Baudelaire parents.
In the final book, titled The End, the orphans and Count Olaf are washed up on a remote island.
Olaf is killed after he is harpooned in the stomach and poisoned by a deadly mushroom.
In his dying moments he helps his former lover Kit Snicket – sister of Lemony – deliver a baby.
After giving birth Kit succumbs to the same poison and asks the Baudelaires to name her baby after their own mother.
They spend the next year raising the baby on the island and in the last pages set sail to return to normal life.
