Breaking The Silence Live: Emotional moment deaf single mum hears again for the first time
BREAKING THE SILENCE LIVE set off the waterworks amongst its viewers tonight as remarkable scenes showed deaf Brits having their hearing restored thanks to incredible technology.
Tearful moment deaf mum hears again
Cochlear implants have helped many people with permanent damage to regain the use of their ears, and tonight several of them had theirs switched on - including Rebecca, a single mother who suddenly lost hearing in one ear several years ago, before the other one followed earlier this year.
As the doctor switched the implants on, Rebecca was instantly emotional as the sound of his voice hit her, and she laughed that he sounded like “a chipmunk” as her body got used to his voice again.
Then, she was teary-eyed once again as she heard her sister Amy speak. Amy had played a huge role in helping Rebecca care for her young son since she lost her hearing.
One viewer wrote: “Incredible to see the moment Rebecca could hear again... Even if her audiologist did sound like a chipmunk! #breakingthesilence.”
