The crooner moved those at home to tears with his "heart-breaking" performance of God Only Knows, just weeks after it was confirmed that his son Noah, three, was battling cancer.
Singing in a pre-recorded VT on the BBC One Appeal Show before he knew his three-year-old was unwell, the 41-year-old said he was "delighted" to be on the programme.
Host Rochelle Humes referenced Michael's sad news as she introduced him: "To kick us off we have one of the smoothest and most handsome guys in the business.
"We thank you so much and of course our thoughts are with you at this difficult time for you and your family."

Friend of the star, David Foster, recently said Michael "will not sing again until his child is well. I'm certain of it."
Both him and his wife, Luisana Lopilato, have put their careers on hold so that they can devote their time to helping care for Noah and their youngest child, Elias.
Children In Need 2016 continues on BBC Two until 1am tonight.
