Firefighter Patrick McBride, who won the role ahead of 20,000 hopefuls last year, is the latest to don the black polo neck for the ad that ends with the original catchphrase “And all because the lady loves ...”
The brand new £3 million campaign, the latest in the saga that began in 1968, is set in the Altai Mountains over the Mongolian steppe and features flying sequences, a Mongolian tribe and stampeding yak.
Mr McBride, who had only “minimal” help from a stuntman for the flying scenes, said: “I loved the whole experience of creating the advert, from hearing about the initial ideas to going to Mongolia and filming the ad itself.”
The full 90-second ad airs for the first time tomorrow during the ITV’s X Factor live show.
The 39-year-old married father from Liverpool was so determined to win the role that he donned his full firefighting kit for the audition and swung a bystander into a fireman’s lift.
Mr McBride, who has combined modelling with a 14-year career with the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, ticked all the boxes for Cadbury.

Meet the new Milk Tray man
The confectionery giant launched the search last year for a new hero to don the iconic black polo neck.
But times have changed since the original ad featuring actor Gary Myers aired in 1968.
The successful applicant now had to show a softer centre to the mystery man who undertakes daring escapades to deliver a box of Milk Tray chocolates to the lady he loves.

Mr McBride said: “At the castings I had to talk about myself and what I do in the fire service.
I think my wife is pleased she is married to the Milk Tray Man
“I decided to put my full fire kit on, asked if anyone minded a fireman’s lift, and presented a box of Milk Tray. My wife is so happy for me.

Cadbury’s parent company Mondelez International’s marketing manager Steve Rich said: “We’re really excited to be bringing our new Milk Tray Man, Patrick McBride, onto screens nationwide for the first time with this new ad.
“He is the perfect example of the modern Milk Tray Man with his caring, daring and thoughtful personality.
"We look forward to seeing how audiences receive his debut performance and the campaign as a whole.”
