Hollywood lawyer says Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie divorce 'will be messy'
LOS ANGELES divorce lawyer Areva Martin appeared on Good Morning Britain today to address the rumours swirling around the shock separation of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Divorce lawyer predicts a messy split for Brangelina
Speaking live from Hollywood, Martin told Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard that there are plenty of rumours coming from both camps and that it could very well be "a messy divorce".
“One rumour we’ve heard is that Brad has been using pot excessively and has a drinking problem,” Martin explained. “And that Angelina has been abusing prescription drugs for a long time.”
These facts are conjecture at this stage, but Martin did note that typically in a high profile divorce all the details will leak, despite the fact that in California divorces are no fault and parties can simply cite irreconcilable differences.

Martin also confirmed that Angelina has hired one of Hollywood’s most aggressive divorce lawyers
I don’t think there’s any chance of reconciliation
Concerning Jolie’s request to take custody of the six children involved, Martin said: “We will have to see if Brad pushes back, this will get tricky. Angelina has been in the press talking about what a great dad Brad is in the past. And now she’s asking for full custody - it sort of flies in the face of what she’s now saying.”
Comparing it to the most recent Hollywood divorce prior to this, between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, Martin remarked: “I don’t think it will be the same as Johnny and Amber. With Brad and Angelina you have two A-lists celebrities who were each very wealthy before they were married. There won’t be a fight over money, it will all be about the custody of the six children.
“There’s a lot at stake and it’s in everyone’s best interest to try and resolve this as quickly and as amicably as possible.”
“We will have to see if Brad pushes back, this will get tricky," she said
The couple have been together since 2005 and married for two years
Martin also confirmed that Angelina has hired one of Hollywood’s most aggressive divorce lawyers, Laura Wasser, who also handled her split from Billy Bob Thornton in 2003 and is representing Johnny Depp currently.
When asked whether there’s any hope of an amicable divorce or even of Jolie and Pitt getting back together, Martin simply said: “I don’t think there’s any chance of reconciliation.”
Yesterday, as the news broke of the separation, Jolie claimed she had filed for divorce “for the health of her family”. The couple have been together since 2005 and married for two years.
This Morning airs on weekdays from 6am on ITV.
