Ruth Langsford slammed for Rylan Clark-Neal 'mincer' joke on This Morning
RUTH LANGSFORD had a look of instant regret on her face today after making a cheeky joke about Rylan Clark-Neal on This Morning.
Viewers OUTRAGED as Ruth calls Rylan a 'mincer'
The pair, who are known to be close pals, were not on-screen at the same time when Ruth jokily implied that he is a "mincer".
She and husband Eamonn Holmes were in the midst of a cooking segment with chef Brian Turner when the latter said: "Buy good mince meat, pay a bit extra for it.
"Go into the butcher's and say, 'I'd like a pound and a half of that meat, now will you mince it for me?'"
Eamonn quipped: "If you know a good mincer, that's the place to go."
Rylan Clark-Neal and Ruth Langsford are good friends from This Morning
It seems Ruth realised what she said after she said it
Chef Brian giggled at the remark
You know, I daren’t say that, I’m glad you did
Unable to help herself, Ruth joked: "Where is Rylan, by the way?"
Flustered, Brian added: "You know, I daren’t say that, I’m glad you did."
As the camera revealed Ruth's face, it seems she immediately knew she could land herself in hot water over the jibe.
Sure enough, although it seems unlikely that Rylan would personally take offence, many viewers took to social media to claim the 56-year-old set a bad example with the derogatory remark.
"Ruth Langsford just called Rylan a mincer on live TV and then realised what she said. Let's see how #thismorning deal with her homophobia," one person said.
Rylan also hosts The Xtra Factor with Matt Edmondson, right
Another wrote: "Any1 else find @RuthieeL calling @Rylan a #Mincer a tad inappropes. There's banter and then there's homophobia. Tut tut @thismorningitv."
A third raged: "@itvthismorning SHOCKED at that @Rylan #mincing joke from @RuthieeL it's like we're still in the 1970s!!! #thismorning."
However, someone else pointed out: "It was a harmless bit of banter, Ruth is one of the nicest presenters on TV."
This Morning airs weekdays at 10:30am on ITV.
