Director Greg Nicotero said the show will never be the same again after Negan's arrival
Following the cliffhanger, fans have speculated which character was on the receiving end of Negan's baseball bat Lucille.
Many believe Daryl Dixon is the character who has been killed off as he doesn't exist in the comic books, however, others are sure it is Glenn who is most likely dead.
Whichever character does die, you can be sure that The Walking Dead will never be the same again.
Producer Greg Nicotero previously warned Digital Spy: "The next season is a very Walking Dead from the one we are accustomed to."
The show's Instagram account hinted that Ezekiel and Shiva would be appearing soon
Mysterious men appeared in season six, who showrunner Scott said could be from The Kingdom
Series creator Robert Kirkman added that Negan "is going to be an ever-present, constant threat that is going to change everything moving forward".
Many fans are also excited for the arrival of Ezekiel. While showrunner Scott Gimple is remaining tight-lipped about the comic-book character, the show's Instagram appeared to confirm his addition to the cast back in April.
Ezekiel – whose arrival was hinted at in season six – is the leader of a community called the Kingdom and was previously a zookeeper, which is how he has his tiger Shiva to protect him.
When Carol was left with multiple gunshot wounds and without a doctor, she was rescued by two mysterious men, who Scott teased "may or may not have been from the Kingdom".
The Walking Dead is expected to return mid-October
Greg said that The Walking Dead will continue for a long time
While AMC is yet to announce the official air date for season seven, it is likely the show will return mid-October if it follows the same transmission patterns as previous series.
And fans shouldn't be worried about the show coming to an end soon. Greg previously said that it "will continue for a long time".
He told Digital Spy: "I love that we show up for work every day as if it was our first day on the job. That level of commitment from the cast and crew keeps the spirit of the show alive.
"As long as that stays alive then we can keep it going for as long as we want it to go on."
The Walking Dead returns later this year.
