Tom Parker Bowles recalls meeting the late Queen

Queen Camilla's son Tom Parker-Bowles has revealed the mistake he made when he first encountered Queen Elizabeth II, admitting he was "so scared" of the late monarch.

Tom, 49, who is the son of Camilla and her ex-husband Andrew Parker-Bowles, opened up about meeting the late Queen during an appearance on ITV's This Morning.

He chatted to hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley about his new cookbook, Cooking and the Crown.

He cooked live on the ITV daytime show, serving up a Royal favourite, titled Queen Elizabeth II's curry. Tom revealed he came up with the recipe prior to Her Majesty's death in September 2022.

"When I first came up with it, the late Queen was still alive. So I was one step removed," he told Ben and Cat.

Tom then revealed he only met Queen Elizabeth II twice - once as a young child and a second time at his mother Camilla's wedding to King Charles in 2005.

"Having only met her twice, the first time I was about eight and I was so scared, I curtsied wrong," Tom revealed, prompting the two This Morning hosts to laugh.

He continued: "And the second time, my sister and I at my mother's wedding. I think we got lost at Windsor Castle and suddenly this very recognisable voice came up behind us. And we were terrified!"

Cat then asked if the Queen had told him and sister Laura, 46, off, but Tom insisted: "No, but she was the Queen!"

He said she then led him and Laura back to the wedding celebrations, admitting: "And we just followed, sort of like children."

Tom's comments come after he spoke out about inaccuraries surrounding his mother's reputation for enjoying smoking and drinking. He dismissed the rumours, claiming they likely arose from the portrayal of Camilla in the Channel 4 show The Windsors.

"Oh, you know she has that reputation of drinking gin and smoking? Never drunk a glass of gin in her life. Doesn’t smoke," he said.

The 49-year-old also revealed he did watch the series. He praised actors Harry Enfield and Haydn Gwynne, who played King Charles and Camilla.

Tom added to The Times: "Yes. She was really brilliant. But my mother hardly drinks. Never seen her so much as tipsy."
