M&S Dress the Nation viewers didn’t hold back on voicing their thoughts about the show’s latest challenge.

The competition to find the next M&S designer, hosted by AJ Odudu and Vernon Kay, saw contestants tasked with creating children's clothing.

However, many fans seemed to share the same opinion as they watched the designs take shape.

Irish model and media personality Vogue Williams joined the judging panel as the amateur designers tackled the difficulties of kids' fashion.

While the contestants presented their creations to both the judges and the public, viewers were left stunned by some of the designs, questioning whether they were truly something children would want to wear.

One person said: “Try getting a child of 10 into something from M&S #dressthenation” A second person added: “Are they mad? 10 year olds would be into River Island kids not M&S. #dressthenation.”

A third person wrote: “I don’t know a 10 year old that would wear that outfit of Maria’s. #dressthenation.”

However, some people seemed delighted with the designs. One person gushed: “The best and coolest outfit came second!! #dressthenation.”

A second said: "David's outfit from the 1st round would win this gender-neutral challenge, hands down!!!! It was perfect gender-neutral streetwear #dressthenation.”

A third viewer said: “Team David's one is great. I think that my nephew would probably like it. I would have happily worn something like it when I was that age (I loved really girly clothes for formal wear but more gender neutral for casual as a child) #dressthenation.”

Some other fans seemed to slam the format of the show, comparing it to BBC Sewing Bee.

One person said: "I’ve tried, really I have, but I can’t watch anymore of this Poundshop Sewing Bee, half the problem is @marksandspencer have literally no fashion credibility #dressthenation.”

A second wrote: “This is no sewing bee #dressthenation.” Unfortunately at the end of the programme, viewers said farewell to Ryan."
