The actor has revealed he is hoping his new deal with the corporation will give him the chance to reprise the role of his much-loved character.
He explained: "I've got a contract with the BBC. I can't really say too much about what I've got on but I'd 100% go back to EastEnders – it's part of my life.
"I've done 28 years on and off and 15,000 episodes."
Sid assured The Sun: "Ricky is not dead yet – I should go back one day and finish the storyline or go back for a length of time.

Celebrity MasterChef: Sid Owen's blue glasses cause Twitter meltdown
"I'm always in touch with people from the show."
The 44-year-old is currently competing in this year's Celebrity MasterChef and admitted it can be quite stressful.
"When you've got so many things to do and you're under pressure sometimes you just go and the knives are so sharp," he commented.
"I've got a few burn scars that's for sure – I just carried on though."
Fellow contestant Louise Minchin has confessed she was quite competitive with the EastEnders star.

Louise confessed she has a bit of a rivalry with Sid on the BBC cooking show
Speaking to Express.co.uk, she revealed: "There was loads of camaraderie, the only person who I had a bit of rivalry with was Sid. I don't know why.
"Literally even before I got to the 'good morning', he'd be like, 'what's she doing here? She's so rubbish at cooking!'
"So, lots of slating from him which sort of made me laugh really because it made me wonder, ‘why is he even bothering? I’m really rubbish at cooking! Why is he worried about me?’”
Both Louise and Sid sailed through to the second round of MasterChef last night while Amy Childs was sent home after becoming overly flustered in the kitchen.
