Outlander showrunner insists drama does ‘real sex, not TV sex’
OUTLANDER show runner Ronald D Moore has hit out at programmes which portray cliched sex scenes and insists that the Amazon Prime drama is much more authentic.
Ronald D Moore insists that the sex scenes in Outlander are authentic
Speaking about why the show is different from others he told Variety: “The curtain drives me berserk.
“Why is there a candle in the foreground? Why is the curtain moving? Where’s that wind coming from? Why is she always on top of him like that?”
Ronald is not impressed with the cliches that are prevalent in sex scenes on television, which is why he was keen to make those in Outlander “more real”.
When he began working on the drama, he revealed he told directors: “‘We’re not doing TV sex. TV sex is not real sex. No one has sex like that.’
Ronald is tired of watching cliche sex scenes
The showrunner told directors that they would not do 'TV sex'
“And they would all laugh and say, ‘Yeah, that’s true. So what do you want to do?’ I said, ‘Just do it like the real deal.’”
He said while the show is known for it’s raunchy scenes, he won’t always put those written in the novels on TV.
When it comes to deciding if sex is important to the narrative, he asks: “What are we going to do this? What’s the story reason?”
He explained: “It’s not just about getting to see them naked again, because we’ve seen them naked, and they’re hot. We get it.”
He added that he only includes sex scenes when it is necessary for the narrative
Diana said sex is an integral part of the storyline
Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander, previously told Express.co.uk that the steamy scenes are an integral part of Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser’s relationship.
The 64-year-old explained: “It’s very important for multiple reasons, for one thing, theirs is a forced marriage.
“They were never intending to marry each other. She wasn’t intending to marry him. He married her mainly because he wanted to sleep with her, to protect her also.
“But the sexual attraction between them is very strong and is the glue that holds them through some very difficult times.”
Outlander continues on Amazon Prime.
