WATCH: Aldi hilariously spoofs John Lewis' Christmas tearjerker Man on the Moon
DISCOUNT supermarket giants Aldi have released a cheeky parody of this year’s John Lewis Christmas advert.
Aldi's Man on the Moon bears an uncanny resemblance to John Lewis' original
The department store’s Christmas commercial has become synonymous with the arrival of the festive period, arriving with fan-fare and exposure that any retailer would enjoy.
And it seems that Aldi are doing their bit to capitalise on John Lewis’ Christmas publicity with their tongue-in-cheek take of the Man on the Moon.
The spoof ad features an elderly doppelgänger of John Lewis’ authentic Man on the Moon, sitting on a bench between two telescopes.
“I like this one,” he says as John Lewis’ price of £109.95 appears next to one of the telescopes in Aldi’s iconic yellow price tag.

He then reaches over to the cheaper Aldi telescope.
“And I like this one,” he says, as the £69.99 store price appears.
He peers into the lens of the cut-price telescope as the camera zooms to a close up of his eye, “But I’m over the moon with this one.”
He stands back from the telescope and viewers can see an armchair tied with helium balloons drifting towards him through space.

As the armchair drifts closer, gin-loving granny Jean, star of Aldi’s popular “Like Brands” campaign in 2011, comes into view.
She gives the Man on the Moon a hearty wave, whose surprise and delight at her arrival is evident.
Jonathan Neale, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi, said: “Jean quickly became a national treasure for her love of our Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin when she first appeared on screens in 2011.as.
