The 44-year-old host let out a series of high-pitched squeals as sparks flew around her, leading her to clutch her chest at the sudden shock.
Co-presenter Kate Garraway screamed too, but Susanna's reaction was priceless and it wasn't long before she buried her face in her hands from the sheer embarrassment of the situation.
"Wow, that was actually quite high risk with the amount of hairspray we're wearing. We could have gone up in flames!" Kate quipped as her colleague was left in a fit of giggles.
"That's been happening all morning, I just didn't realise it was going to happen to us," Susanna tried to explain to viewers.

The pair were just about to speak to reality TV star Gemma Collins about this year's I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! when the incident happened.
Susanna was introducing the feature, saying: "It's that time of year again…" when the fireworks went off and gave the broadcaster a surprise.
While Kate and Susanna were left jittery from the fireworks, it appeared that Gemma was not affected one bit and told the GMB hosts: "After being in there for six days, nothing can scare me."

Earlier on in the show a pyrotechnics expert had been testing the sparks to make sure that they would light up without a hitch.
In fact, there was so much smoke in the studio that Kate said it smelled like "bonfire night", while GMB newsreader Charlotte Hawkins found the fumes quite heavy after presenting a bulletin.
