Downton Abbey finale: Viewers left furious as Lady Edith denied her happy ending
IT WAS an ending of sorts on Downton Abbey as the series six finale aired tonight, bringing the show nearly to a close.
Viewers took to Twitter to share their anger about Lady Edith's unhappy ending
The episode tried to tie up as many loose ends as possible with a resolution for Lady Mary and Henry Talbot after the couple split up last week.
While she waltzed off into the sunset in a stylish wedding dress and a new husband, her younger sister Edith was denied one thanks to Mary's spite.
Edith was on the cusp of happiness with Bertie Pelham, who had suddenly come into a vast inheritance following the death of his cousin, but Mary unexpectedly broke the news about Marigold to him. It wasn't long before Edith and Bertie split, leaving her alone once more.
The plot twist left viewers furious with many taking to social media to vent their anger at the frosty Mary and calling for creator Julian Fellowes to give poor, old Edith the happiness she deserved.
