Wild Britain With Ray Mears
TONIGHT outdoorsman Ray Mears heads to the New Forest in Hampshire.
Established 1,000 years ago as a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror, it is now one of Britain’s finest nature reserves.
In its ancient woodland Mears finds fallow deer and New Forest ponies as well as dead and decaying trees that are home to beetles, bats and hornets.
By night he ventures on the windswept heathland for an encounter with the mysterious nightjar.
