Fans of The Chase have long speculated about who might take over the reins if Bradley Walsh ever decides to step down. The presenter, who turns 66 today (June 4), has hosted the hit ITV quiz show since it first aired in 2009 and remains one of its most recognisable faces.

The Chase follows four contestants as they go head-to-head with a professional quizzer for the chance to win thousands of pounds. Having presented the show for a staggering 17 years, some viewers have begun to wonder if Bradley could perhaps walk away in the next few years. But if that day comes, who will step in for him? A number of fans speculated that Stephen Mulhern could be awarded the coveted role.

But this didn't sit well with everyone as one fumed: "He’s dreadful to watch imo, I’d stop watching if he hosted, also he’s not really right for the chase regardless I think, he’s better for wackier shows. I feel like Freddie flintoff maybe would be a good fit.

Another echoed: "Anyone but Stephen Mulhern."

Offering a different view, another said: "Honestly I think one of the chasers would be the best bet. My vote is for Paul as he's already a stand up comedian so those skills would cross over nicely with hosting."

Shutting down the idea, someone else replied: "Could Paul or any of the Chasers keep up with the pace of asking questions though in the Cash Builder or Final Chase? Not everyone can go at that pace. I’m also not sure having an ex-Chaser would work because Bradley’s charm is that he’s guessing along with the contestants."

Another echoed: "I don't think it would work with a chaser. They've spent their careers 'getting correct answers quickly'. I doubt any of them could change out of that lifelong role to just asking the questions/hosting."

Others suggested that Bradley's son, Barney Walsh, would make the perfect successor.

Bradley has shown no signs that he is willing to step down from The Chase, however, there is one factor that could push him to make that decision.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2025, he said: "Until people say they've had enough and start switching off, I'll do it.We've had such an extraordinary time together. It's the best job in the world."
