King Charles came under fire on GB News after it was revealed that Buckingham Palace would no longer be his primary residence. This comes after it emerged that the monarch and Queen Camilla would continue to reside in Clarence House, despite almost £370 million of taxpayers' money being pumped into renovating Buckingham Palace. GB News' Patrick Christys was joined by comedian Archie Manners, who fumed: "These headlines are utterly absurd, tens of thousands of people have died in Venezuela," before raging: "It's not his home, you don't have a bedroom in the office back there ... he's made a functional office for the head of state, thank goodness for that!"

"This was a building riddled with asbestos; we now have a reasonable place where he can conduct state business. I think that's wonderful." Patrick then argued: "For me, the issue is about communication because when they looked to increase the money they wanted for the refurbishment, they said if the King and Queen were going to live there, that it needed to be done properly. It did give the impression that one of the reasons we were paying so much was because that would be their home."

In his brutal dig, Archie slammed: "That’s a comms mess up, what they should have said was 'what we need actually for a modern monarch is a London base where the staff can work, and we can host receptions,'

"That is a comms mess up, but it doesn't make them evil, it doesn’t make it a massive problem, it's not really a story."

Meanwhile, broadcaster Linda Duberley highlighted: "I think it is important that the Palace should always put out the right message, and this is definitely the wrong message.

"It's more than a comms error; if someone actually said that this money was going to make it a better home for the King and the Queen, that's more than a comms mess up. That's an actuality mess up.

Former Labour minister Bill Rammell weighed in and added: "It is welcome the fact that this has been published, the Royal Family, in terms of its communications and its transparency, is trying to move from a 19th century operation to the modern world, and that is challenging and difficult for it.

King Charles's decision to remain in Clarence House will mark the first time Buckingham Palace won't be a primary residence since Queen Victoria became sovereign in 1837.

Instead, James Chalmers, the king’s treasurer and keeper of the privy purse, said it would remain the primary venue for ceremonial and official functions, including receiving foreign dignitaries.

"It is and will remain monarchy HQ, the crown jewel of our national buildings, with the sovereign’s standard flying proudly from the roof whenever his majesty is in London."
