BBC's Mastermind halted as Clive Myrie shares big news on air
The host shared an update on the show.

BBC Mastermind fans will be thrilled to hear an update that was issued about the show by host Clive Myrie. At the end of Monday's show (March 2), Clive declared the latest winner as he encouraged people who were keen to take part in the series to head online to apply now. The first episode typically includes a specialist subject matter round, at the request of the contestant, and two general knowledge rounds. Once all four contestants have played, one person will be declared the winner who can then go on to the semi-finals.
And fans will be happy to hear that they're not too far away. The host announced at the end of the show that things will be changing from the next episode as he declared: "Join us again next time where we will have the first of our semi-finals. Thanks for watching." The episode then cut to the winner, Melaina, talking about her success on the show.

Melaina was thrilled as she said in the separate room: "When I heard from Clive that I'd won the episode, firstly it was a big relief. Like I've done it, I've not embarrassed myself on national TV." However she soon realised that it meant she would have "even more work to do".
She explained that getting all of her questions correct in the specialist subject round was a huge "confidence boost" for her, but she admitted that it made her nervous then watching her fellow contestants answer the general knowledge questions.
Melaina added: "I moved to the UK a few years ago to pursue my university studies and after participating in University Challenge as part of my college team I found out about Mastermind."

She explained that she was hoping to "try her luck" at Mastermind as well but isn't thinking too far ahead about winning the famous Mastermind glass bowl that is up for grabs. Her thoughts mostly focus on winning the semi-final first, but said that if she did manage to win it it would be a huge "sense of pride" for not only her, but her family, university, and said: "Also for myself as an immigrant to the UK."
Melaina went up against some strong fellow contestants, with two of her co-stars getting a total of 20 points and becoming joint runners-up while she managed to get a total of 22 points, which saw her fly through to the semi finals.
