It's been confirmed what role David Tennant will play in the upcoming film The Thursday Murder Club, which is due to land on screens later this year. The film is an adaptation of the hit Richard Osman novel of the same name, which follows four retirees who investigate murders. The bestselling murder mystery will be coming to Netflix in 2025.

While it has been confirmed that the central cast will be made up of Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie, it had also been announced that David would feature, but his role hadn't been disclosed. Director Chris Columbus has now revealed that the Scottish star will play Ian Ventham, who owns Coopers Chase, the retirement village where the foursome reside.

Chris has also shared that Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes and Geoff Bell will portray the characters DCI Chris Hudson, Bogdan and Tony Curran respectively.

DCI Hudson is police officer Donna De Freitas's (Naomi Ackie) boss, while Bodgan works for Ian and Tony is a builder, who formerly worked for Ian.

Other castings include Jonathan Pryce, Ingrid Oliver, Richard E Grant, Sarah Niles, Tom Ellis and Paul Freeman.

Speaking with Collider, Chris revealed: "Because of Richard Osman's writing, I was able to cast one of the best acting ensembles I've worked with since Harry Potter. Making this film was a dream. I truly hope I am fortunate enough to make a sequel. And another sequel. And another sequel…"

The director has also confirmed that the film will be slightly different to the book, but they are "sticking with the storyline of the Thursday Murder Club novel".

"Other scenes were omitted for time," he added. "But the essence of the book's sharp, witty humor and the emotional complexity of each character has been preserved. The film is a very faithful adaptation of the novel."

The fifth Thursday Murder Club is due to be released by Richard in September, titled The Impossible Fortune.

The Thursday Murder Club will land in cinema and on Netflix later this year.
