Coronation Street's Sue Cleaver replaced as 'dream job' comes to an end
Actor Sue Cleaver has played Eileen Grimshaw on the cobbles since 2001, but took a break this year to star in a touring musical - with a former co-star now taking over the role
Coronation Street's Sue Cleaver, who has been a staple on the show since 2001, has been replaced by a former co-star after stepping away from her "dream" job. Earlier this year, the 60 year old actress took an extended break from filming to take on a role she was excited about.
She portrayed Mother Superior in the musical production of Sister Act as it toured across the UK, with Corrie bosses granting her a "few months grace" to do so.
The actress, known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw, has since returned to the cobbles. However, as the show continues its tour, a new Mother Superior has been announced.
When the hit musical arrives in Liverpool later this month, the role will be taken over by Wendi Peters, who previously played Cilla Brown on Coronation Street.
Cilla, mother to Chesney and Fiz, left the street in 2007, before making a brief return in 2014. Since then, Wendi has appeared in shows such as Hetty Feather, Mr Sunshine, Midsomer Murders, and the BBC soap Doctors, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Sister Act: The Musical is set to arrive at the Liverpool Empire on Monday, September 30, running until Saturday, October 5. The highly anticipated adaptation of the Whoopi Goldberg film has a runtime of 2.5 hours and has garnered rave reviews from numerous publications.
