Netflix fans divided over ‘demonic’ new thriller as some demand streamer to ‘take it off'

New Netflix thriller The Deliverance is splitting subscribers down the middle as some are even demanding it should be removed.

While some were gripped by the supernatural horror inspired by a real-life haunting case, others weren’t even able to finish.

R&B singer Andra Day stars as Ebony Jackson, an alcoholic mother-of-three who moves into their third new home in a short timeframe, hoping to settle down.

However, terrifying occurrences and strange phenomena soon convince both the family and their community that the house is a portal to hell.

Hollywood star Glenn Close co-stars as Ebony’s devoutly religious mother, while Stranger Things’ Caleb McLaughlin portrays her eldest son Nate.

Despite the dependable horror premise and strong cast, the film has sparked backlash amongst Netflix viewers, who took to Facebook to vent their frustrations.

One member of the Netflix Bangers group posted: “I’m begging Netflix to take off that movie Deliverance from Netflix else I’m not paying for it anymore.

“I was anxious to see the movie [but] I stopped halfway through and that movie is the most demonic depressing movie I’ve ever watched.”

Others agreed with the negative take on the film, though admitted they didn’t think it was particularly scary.

“Watched it last night, it's about as scary as Snow White,” someone replied. “The last 15 mins were okay but soooo long-winded to get there.”

“Stop recommending The Deliverance! It's 2hrs of your life you can never get back!” another member said in a separate post.

“Who said The Deliverance was 10/10?” another said. “Come outside we just wanna talk.”

To which another commented: “It's the stupidest movie I've ever seen.”

But other viewers thought the film deserved more praise, with one replying: “For a true horror fan I absolutely loved it, no need to beg Netflix to take it down.

“There are people like me who love a good horror and pay for the service. Just simply don’t watch it.”

And a final fan shared: “The Deliverance was not what I expected at all. I was weirded out by this but it was a good watch, I rate it a 9.5 /10.

“When I tell you this had me scared to go downstairs by myself I had to wake my daughter up to come with me at 4am so it’s scary, good sort of like the Exorcist movies.”

The Netflix thriller currently has a 53 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, so it’s fair to say The Deliverance has generated some wildly different opinions.
