The Repair Shop host in shock as guest takes apart restored item

In an episode of BBC’s The Repair Shop, one guest wanted to see just how much effort went into restoring his beloved family item.

During the show, which aired last Wednesday, viewers were introduced to Gordon and his two sons James and Ross

Bringing in his grandfather's outdoor curling stones, Gordon explained they were passed down to his own father before making their way down to him.

The stones were used at the Grand Match in Scotland back in 1979, which his father’s team won.

However, over the years the stones had become extremely worn with their handles bent out of shape and the wicker baskets falling apart.

Leaving it in the hands of Brenton West, BBC viewers saw multiple people in the workshop come together to help restore the sentinel items including leather expert Suzie Fletcher and basket weaver Sarah Hatton

When it was time to see what the expert restorers had accomplished, Gordon was blown away by the grand reveal.

Looking gobsmacked, he commented: “Wow. They look totally different. Honestly, they were so bent out of shape.”

Unscrewing one of the handles on the curling stones, Gordon held it in his hand, reinstating how bent they were when he originally brought them into the workshop.

However, host Jay Blades was unsure why the guest was dismantling the curling stones his team had just restored.

He quipped: “So, how come you’ve taken it apart? You’re properly checking his work?”

As Gordon further continued to fiddle with the handle, making sure all parts were working correctly, Jay was stunned.

The BBC star turned to Brenton and commented: “He’s properly checking it!”

Realising he could be causing offence, the guest was quick to justify his actions.

Gordon replied: “No, no, no, I couldn't take it apart before! It was that jammed up. I couldn’t do it.

“It probably hadn't been taken apart in 50 years or something.”

He promptly put the handle back on the curling ball before thanking Brenton and Jay for their help fixing the sentimental item.

Jay joked Gordon was so excited he was like a kid at Christmas as the guest continued to remain in awe over the restoration.

The Repair Shop is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
