GMB's Kate Garraway shares fears as daughter marks huge milestone without Derek

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, 57, has shared her concerns as her daughter Darcey, 18, is set to mark an important milestone.

Kate Garraway says her daughter is waiting for her results

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has opened up about her worries as her daughter faces a significant moment without her late husband Derek Draper.

Kate, 57, and Derek, who died in January after a prolonged battle with severe health issues caused by Covid-19, share two children, Darcey and Billy, aged 14.

Their eldest, Darcey, 18, is on the cusp of getting her A-level results. During Tuesday's GMB show, Kate, alongside co-host Ed Balls, navigated through the day's leading stories.

ITV correspondent Juliet Dunlop was reporting live from Fife, Scotland, where students are eagerly awaiting their exam outcomes.

Reflecting on her own experiences in the studio, Kate said: "I don't know about you but I remember not only it being nail-biting but also quite sad because depending on if you are doing O-Levels or A-Levels, you will be saying goodbye to friends going to different uni," reports the Mirror.

She then shared her optimism regarding her daughter's upcoming results, stating: "That will be happening to a lot of people waiting for GCSE and A Levels. Next week I have a daughter waiting to find out just how badly she's done in her exams but positive thinking is what we are going to have."

This conversation comes as Kate returned to Good Morning Britain following a brief hiatus due to her father's illness.

During her absence, fellow co-stars Rob Rinder, Charlotte Hawkins, Ranvir Singh, and Ed, 57, filled in for the majority of the week.

Kate had previously announced her return to the show in a heartfelt Instagram post last week. The presenter penned: "Hi all - sorry I disappeared from here when my Dad collapsed and rushed to hospital 2 weeks ago while having a holiday with my Mum at my brother's. It was very scary but am so pleased that he is now stable and even recovering a bit in hospital - we have so much to be grateful for, but are taking it a day at a time."

"Huge thanks to the incredible NHS staff for their endless kindness and the heart they put into the care of all their patients which has meant so much to my mum and all our family. Huge thanks too to my incredible friends @itv and @smoothradio particularly @ranvirtv @charlottehawkins1 @tinahobleyofficial @myleeneklass for yet again changing their plans to cover for me so I could put my family first."

The ITV presenter concluded by saying: "Luckily I also had some weeks' leave booked so I have been able to support my Mum and Brother and be with my Dad while also giving Darcey and Billy some summer fun on their school holidays which of course they really need. Am hoping to be back on @gmb and @smoothradio on Monday so can update more than but for now sending love to you all #love #hope #friendshipday."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
