Saturday Morning viewers saw James Martin told off by a guest when he made an old age joke.

Host James Martin was joined by chef Daniel Clifford on the ITV cooking show when he whipped up a delicious rhubarb and rum cake knickerbocker glory.

It wasn’t too long before he introduced the creators of the Jamaican rum cake, Colin Harrison and Paulette Griffiths from Nottingham via video call.

Two years ago, the couple won Aldi’s Next Big Thing competition with their Harrison and Griffiths Rum Cake brand and were soon receiving orders in their hundreds.

Rounding off the segment, James asked Colin, who previously worked as a mechanic and an electrician, a personal detail about himself.

James began: “I wish you all the very best of luck and if you don’t mind me asking -

“This is proof that no matter how old you are, you can then have a passionate start to a business.

“Colin, if you don’t mind me asking, how old are you now and you’re still working?”

Colin then stated that he was 70, while Paulette stated: “And I’m 60”, and repeated this fact again when she thought James didn’t hear her the first time.

James then teased: “Paulette, you don’t look 25”, and with a serious look on her face, she replied: “Oh shut up!”

Colin, Paulette, James and Daniel all started laughing at her reaction to the age joke.

“But seriously guys, I wish you all the best. We get some amazing suppliers on the show and we really do and this is the enjoyment of doing this”, James added.

“You’re introducing chefs and the general public at large, where you get all this amazing produce from…and the flavour of this is just spectacular.”

Other guests who featured on the episode were Michelin-star chef Raymond Blanc and married couple Matt and Nicola Baker.

James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs at 9.30am every Saturday on ITV.
