Coronation Street viewers are certain they have pieced together the imminent downfall of Joel Deering (played by Calum Lill).

Last week's episodes left fans reeling when it was revealed that Joel was the perpetrator behind Lauren Bolton's (Cait Fitton) attack. The lawyer appeared to have the situation under control as he took on Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper), who was recently arrested for Lauren's murder.

Yet, eagle-eyed viewers suspect Joel may have sealed his fate after being spotted at sex worker Ellie's (Lola Blue) house in a recent episode. Joel had previously coerced Ellie into falsely accusing Nathan of abusing her, maintaining his facade.

After overhearing Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) persuading Ellie to report the truth to the authorities, a subsequent scene showed him ominously erasing Ellie's contact from his mobile.

However, social media users are convinced that Joel deleting the number is a sign of his guilt, with police easily able to recover data, reports the Liverpool Echo.

One viewer wrote: "So Joel deletes Ellie's number... does he not realise you never actually delete anything from a mobile.....not so smart Joel."

A second agreed: "He's not very smart for a lawyer - it's all good and well him deleting Ellie's number but IF he does get found out, they'll (probably) still be able to get back any texts between the two of them."

To cover himself, Joel forced Ellie to pack up and leave before Craig (Colson Smith) could interview her. After viewing the scenes, another fan remarked: "Looks like Joel has killed again! But how stupid is he deleting Ellie's number off his phone when he gets found out won't the police check his phone and still see his previous contacts?"

Calum, who made his first appearance as Joel in September 2023, opened up about the huge twist involving his character, confessing he feels "relieved" after keeping the secret for more than one year.

"I'm terrified but it's also a relief. I've known this for over a year," he told Digital Spy. "It was last May that I got sent the breakdown for Joel, saying that he was a charming character who's got a dark side."

The actor added: "When I got the screen test they said, 'Okay, this is what Joel is going to be doing'. I thought, 'Oh my goodness, this is a really terrible person. And I've got to hide in plain sight for a year'."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
