Eamon Holmes returned to work for the first time following his split from ITV star Ruth Langsford. The broadcaster, 64, decided to face the reaction to his marriage breakdown head as opposed to sitting at home and taking time off.

The former This Morning power couple left fans shocked when they publicly announced their split earlier this week. However, Eamon appeared to put on a brave face and not hide behind closed doors.

However, it was confirmed Ruth Langsford will not appear on Loose Women this week for their half-term special. The likes of Kaye Adams and Charlene White have steered the flagship chat show and stepped in as the anchor.

It has been alleged that Eamon was offered time off but turned it down after wanting to get back on-screen. The Sun reported that the presenter wanted to remain professional.

"Eamonn is a professional and so no matter what is going on in his private life, he is determined not to let down his work colleagues," told the source with him fronting the show news show on Wednesday.

They added: "Many expected he'd want to take a few days off until news of the split blows over, but Eamonn refused."

They also claimed that he refused to shy away from the public eye, adding: "He didn't want to hide. News of the split has been coming for a long time."

However, this comes after it was said that Eamon was "blindsided" and "furious" over his ex's statement about them separating.

It has been said that he was not a part of the big news that was made public on Saturday which Ruth announced.

A close pal of the GB News presenter has claimed he's been "angry and baffled" by the announcement which appeared to be a joint statement.

They told Mail Online: "He literally found out about it a very short time before it was published – you're talking hours.

"It all seems a little bizarre given that the statement said they were hoping to keep it amicable."

The friend went on to claim that Eamonn did not want to be part of the saga that is playing out in the media, adding: "He couldn't see any reason why you would release that statement."

It was also reported that the statement "was wholly written and signed off by Ruth and her team".

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Ruth and Eamonn for comment.
