Emmerdale could soon see a complicated custody battle unfold between Rhona Goskirk (played by Zoe Henry) and Gus Malcolms (Alan McKenna). Fans of the ITV soap will recall Gus showed up last year wanting help from his ex, Rhona.
He explained his current partner, Lucy had wanted children with him but they had been unable to conceive. He went on to tell Rhona he'd kept the embryos they'd frozen while they were in a relationship and needed her permission to use them.
A baffled Rhona was stunned as she believed everything had been destroyed when they'd broken up. She eventually decided not to grant her permission to the couple.
However, just before Christmas, it transpired Lucy was pregnant as Gus had gone ahead and used the embryos anyway. In a tragic twist, Lucy went into early labour and died soon after giving birth.
Gus was left a single, grieving father to baby Ivy. Rhona's mother Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) began reaching out to Gus and noticed how he wasn't coping well.
Rhona and husband Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) were eventually persuaded to allow Gus and Ivy into their house, and they stayed for Christmas.
However, he went missing before the New Year, unable to deal with single parenthood.
Last week, Gus called to say he was feeling better, but Rhona put him off returning to collect Ivy too soon.
In upcoming scenes, Gus turns up and sparks a new load of drama.
