EXCLUSIVE: Charity Dingle is struggling to cope after shooting Chloe Harris' father dead in recent weeks.
Emmerdale: Charity burns newspaper of Damon
Emmerdale stalwart Charity Dingle (played by Emma Atkins) could end up taking some time away from the Yorkshire Dales as she battles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on the ITV soap.
In upcoming scenes, Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb) checks in on Charity, but she is pretending she is starting to cope with everything which happened over the festive period.
Around Christmas, viewers were stunned as Charity accidentally turned killer when she rushed to save Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).
Mack was kidnapped by Damon Harris (Robert Beck) who beat him black and blue before tying him up to a chair in a disused warehouse.
Fans will recall Mack ended his relationship with Damon's daughter Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland) to get back together with his ex-wife Charity.
While the police have dropped their investigation into Harry's death, Charity has been struggling with flashbacks and loud noises.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other publications ahead of the murder, Charity actress Emma shared: "She didn't go out there to kill him - it was still in the heat of the moment."
She said her character is "constantly reliving that moment" instead of reminding herself she was just trying to save Mack's life.
Emma added: "She's never ever been in that situation before. She's never, you know, had a gun in a hand.

"I think it's just so utterly traumatic and beyond anyone's comprehension. I think it just troubles her to the point where she can't really relate to anyone."
Emma continued: "Yeah, she's troubled. She's constantly reliving the moment and I think, you know, it's going to lead to a lot of PTSD within her."
Charity has been finding it difficult to confide in anyone and is "putting walls up" around her as well as "going through her own hell".
"She's locking it all in and trying to compartmentalize it which makes it worse and she doesn't know how to deal with it," Emma admitted.
Could Charity end up leaving Emmerdale as she struggles with her PTSD? Would she return to the Dales, or could viewers soon be waving goodbye to the soap legend?
Her partner Mack might not even realise how much she is struggling because he has been preoccupied with stealing cars with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
