Riverdale season 4: Will there be a musical episode? Can the cast really sing?
RIVERDALE season 4 has started filming now with new episodes of The CW teen drama set to be hitting screens in the autumn. One question fans of the series have is: Will there be a musical episode in the new series?
Riverdale: Gang confront evils of their past in episode preview
Season four of Riverdale is in the works after Betty Cooper star Lili Reinhart confirmed the shoot had started. The new series of Riverdale is expected to consist of 22 episodes which will be split by a midseason hiatus. The CW and Netflix show will be picking up in the aftermath of the shocking season three finale which suggested very bad things had happened to Jughead Jones (played by Cole Sprouse).
Will there a musical episode in Riverdale season 4?
Ever since Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s musical episode Once More, with Feeling back in 2001 which featured the cast performing tracks and telling a story, US TV shows across the board have introduced their own special episodes with song numbers.
Non-musical shows such as Community, The Flash and Psych have all featured musical episodes making it a common convention in shows now.
Riverdale introduced a musical episode in season two called Chapter Thirty-One: A Night to Remember and featured songs from Carrie: The Musical by Lawrence D. Cohen and Michael Gore.
The episode saw the cast singing tracks from the musical which seemed to reflect the plot of the episodes as well.
Season three featured show tunes from Heathers: The Musical in the episode Chapter Fifty-One: Big Fun as the teens got ready for a production at Riverdale High.
Riverdale season four is likely to be no different and will probably feature a musical number.
However, the musical episode could be in the second half of the season based on the previous ones which came in the latter half of both series.
Fans will have to stay tuned to see which musical will be making an appearance in Riverdale but it’s going to be an entertaining watch.
Can the cast of Riverdale really sing?
The cast of Riverdale all sing in the show rather than someone else performing on their behalf while they lip-sync.
Each of the cast members has different vocal abilities with some also having musical work alongside their acting.
IMDb lists Toni Topaz star Vanessa Morgan as performing in the TV series My Babysitter’s a Vampire.
But the star has shown off her singing skills before on her YouTube account where she’s performed songs with minimal backing music.
Casey Cott, who plays Kevin Keller, has performed in musical theatre previously.
Camila Mendes, better known as Veronica Lodge, has previously shown off her singing skills on social media as well.
Meanwhile, Reinhart has expressed her love of music and has displayed her skills as a singer before.
Speaking about the musical abilities of the cast, Reinhart told Extra: “Who would I say is the best singer? Casey.
“Casey has always been my favourite singer because he has the most musical theatre-y voice and I love it when he sings, I wish he could sing more in the show.”
She continued: “KJ is definitely the most talented musician. I’m not sure who else can play instruments but I know he plays guitar. It’s incredible.”
“Camila definitely sings a lot. She’s always singing whether its just for fun or whether it’s for this musical episode.
“She likes to sing, so I would say she’s the one who’s always singing on set,” she added.
Riverdale season 4 will return to Netflix this autumn
