Martin Lewis discusses his support for Grief Encounter charity
Martin Lewis, best known for appearing on such daytime shows as This Morning and Good Morning Britain, spoke on Loose Women today.
The 46-year-old opened up about losing his mother when he was just a child.
He went on to promote the charity Grief Encounter, which he has also financially backed.
Following the tragic loss of his mother after a car accident, Martin explained what went on in the period after the event.
He told the panel: “I didn't talk to my father, my sister - we just didn't talk.
“We just got on because none of us could cope emotionally with having the conversation about this horrible sudden change to our lives.
“One day, my mum was there - a happy lovely family - and the next day it was gone.”
Although this was obviously a traumatic experience for the daytime TV star, he explained how he tried to see the good from the situation.
Speaking of his own personal philosophy in life, he added: “What I'm trying to do is learn to remember the wonderful person I lost - not learn to remember that I lost a wonderful person.
“One of the lessons I learned is you feel guilty about being happy. I remember feeling guilty for years every time I was happy. Why should I be happy?
I didn't talk to my father, my sister - we just didn't talk
“And actually my philosophy now is you grab every moment of happiness that you can possibly have.”
The extremely frank discussion led him on to discuss his own mortality.
Martin continued: “I look and I think: 'God forbid anything happen to me.’
“The last thing I'd want is the people who love me to be constantly upset and miserable and sad, so we all have to remember when we're going through grief is how we would want someone to remember us.
“Yes, we'd want them to miss us, yes, we'd want them to care, of course - but we wouldn't want it to mean that they were constantly miserable and upset.”
Earlier this week Loose Women star Andrea McLean told Express.co.uk about her past health issues.
She said: “Basically I needed to give my gut a rest, it’s not been coping very well.
“I’ve had so many abdominal operations over the years, complications, pregnancy and everything else,” she divulged.
“It’s been cut a few times and all surgical things.”
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
