DOCTOR WHO fans are desperate to see the return of River Song and it seems Alex Kingston has dropped one of the biggest hints yet we could see her against Jodie Whittaker.
Doctor Who: The Doctor finds out UNIT has been shut down
Doctor Who is on break for a year while the cast film the upcoming 12th season.
While Jodie Whittaker, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh settle into their second run out in the TARDIS, it seems they could be joined by a very familiar face.
This Morning welcomed Alex Kingston on to the show and she spoke about a potential return for River Song.
The beloved character was last seen on screen in 2015 during The Husbands of River Song.
It appeared to be one of her last possible appearances given her complex timeline as she was given the screwdriver seen in Forest of the Dead, the episode she died in.
On This Morning today, Alex said to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby how much she would want to return.
When asked if she would go back to Doctor Who, Alex excitedly revealed: “Oh, I’m always up for that.”
She went on: “Well, I did’ feel like I’ve ever left because even though I’m not filming, I’m still doing the audiobooks.”
Alex went on to discuss Jodie in the lead role and explained how they met once.
She said: “We bumped into each other at Comic Con and gave each other a hug.”
Phillip wondered what she thought about Jodie being the first female and Alex gave her honest opinion.
She said: “To be honest, at first I thought I was a little conflicted because I thought all those little boys, how are they going to handle [it]?
“But when Peter Capaldi [was cast], I thought how are these young people going to relate to…
“Sorry Peter, this man could be their grandfather!”
Alex did go on to explain how much she enjoys watching Jodie’s Doctor, however.”
GMB: John Barrowman compliments Jodie Whittaker as Dr Who

The cast also recently filmed in South Africa.
