Dancing On Ice 2019: 'Way overmarked' Fans slam Jayne Torvill over James Jordan score
DANCING ON ICE fans tonight took to Twitter to complain that they thought judge Jayne Torvill overmarked James Jordan for his Flintstones routine. Here’s what they said.
Dancing on Ice: James Jordan gives sneak peek from rehearsals
James Jordan tonight (Sunday, February 24) took to the Dancing On Ice stage to perform a Flintstones-inspired dance with Alexandra Schauman on the ITV show. Dancing On Ice judge Jayne Torvill scored the skate to The Flintstones Theme a 9.5, a score that many viewers thought was too high. Christopher Dean and Ashley Banjo both scored the dance a 9, while Jason Gardiner gave the routine an 8 for a total of 35.5.
Dancing On Ice fans on Twitter questioned Jayne’s high mark for the performance.
One wrote: “Overmarked, that was good but an 8.5 at best #DancingOnIce”
Another tweeted: “Lacklustre jump, ran along the STAGE not the ice, tripped, and yet he still gets 9.5???
“Yall under marking the best skaters and favouring the professional dancer #dancingonice”
Jason also had some criticism to make about the routine, which began with James and Alexandra in a Flintstones vehicle.
The judge said: “What I love about you is you’re a great technician, but a comedy character you are not.
“I think this was a great opportunity to really let go and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
“What I’m seeing here is missed opportunities when you could have taken it much further.”
Fans on Twitter, however, were even more harsh than Jason.
A Dancing On Ice viewer tweeted: “Really didn’t enjoy James’ performance - baffled he got a 9.5 tbh.”
The judges’ challenge for this week was to include freestyle jumps in their performances.
One viewer said they had been disappointed by the lack of jumps in the ex-Strictly pro’s routine.
They wrote: “Wait. 9.5 for James???? He's not even jumped! 2 little jumps only #DancingOnIce”
Judge Christopher however, praised James’ performance.
He told the dancer: “What I like about this routine you’ve got some really difficult moves in.
“Running on the stage, transitioning from the ice back onto the stage, showing versatility…
He added: “I think you are doing great,” and urged him to, “keep going.”
Dancing On Ice airs Sundays at 6pm on ITV
