BBC weather: DENSE fog patches to sweep the UK
Britons have been warned they could face disruptions to their travel today due to the arrival of dense fog.
The smog will affect several areas across the UK and the Met Office has officially issued a yellow warning of fog.
A weather warning is in place for the East Midlands, East of England, London and South East England.
South West England and the West Midlands have also been included in the list.
Fog has the potential to cause delays to bus and train services, as well as to flights, some of which could be cancelled.
Meteorologist Matt Taylor reported the weather forecast from RAF Coninngsby, where he told BBC Breakfast viewers: “Fog could also be an issue for that morning commute here in Coninngsby.”
He added: “Anywhere across England in particular we could see some dense patches of fog form and that fog will last for a few hours.”
However, the vast majority of the bad weather should clear before midday, although some will linger around the south east.
What’s more, the sunshine will be quite hazy this afternoon and the winds strong in the far north west of the UK.
Elsewhere dry and bright, with temperatures again in the mid-teens.
Fog could also be an issue for that morning commute
This Friday the heat value widely at the 14/15 degrees Celsius mark, but some places could see the figure reach 17.
This weekend high pressure will continue to keep most of the weather fronts at bay.
But one is predicted to slip through the net and make its way into western parts of the UK.
The weather system will bring thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain, as well as mist and fog on Saturday and Sunday.
Despite the presence of low cloud and mist, bookmaker Coral still has odds on this month being the hottest February ever.
Now, Coral has odds-on at 4-5 for this month to end as the warmest February in UK history, as the Sahara heatwave is helping to keep temperatures in the mid-teens this week.
Also, the firm is 1-2 for 2019 to be the hottest year on record in the UK, while they are now offering 10-11 for temperatures to reach 20C this month.
“The warm air from the Sahara is helping to push the temperatures into the high teens this month,” said Coral’s spokesman John Hill.
“As a result the betting now suggests we are set for the hottest February ever in the UK.”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
