Call the Midwife: Trixie given Barbara’s old uniform
BBC One will see the Call the Midwife 2019 cast return tonight (Sunday, February 24) at 8pm. Call the Midwife tonight will see Sister Trixie (played by Helen George) help a pregnant woman with gonorrhoea. The Call the Midwife cast includes Sister Julienne (played by Jenny Agutter), Nurse Phyllis Crane (Linda Bassett) and Nurse Valerie Dyer (Jennifer Kirby).
Who stars in Call the Midwife 2019 on BBC?
Nurse Trixie Franklin – Helen George
George, 34, returns for season eight having appeared in every series of Call the Midwife so far.
Since landing the role of Nurse Trixie Franklin, George has gone on to star in Red Dwarf, Nativity Rocks! and Comedy Playhouse.
Nurse Shelagh Turner – Laura Main
Main, 37, maintains her record of having appeared in every episode of Call the Midwife in 2019.
Away from the BBC drama, Main’s CV boasts roles in hospital-based drama Holby City and Channel 4 series The Mill.
Jenny (The Narrator) – Vanessa Redgrave
Oscar-winner Redgrave, 71, has narrated every episode of Call the Midwife since the BBC drama began back in 2012.
Redgrave won an Oscar for her role in 1977 flick Julia and also received a further five nominations for parts in Howards End (1992), The Bostonians (1984), Mary, Queen of Scots (1971), Isadora (1969), and Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment (1966).
Sister Julienne – Jenny Agutter
Another Call the Midwife stalwart, Agutter, 66, will appear in season eight having starred in every episode so far.
The actress boasts an Emmy Award win for the role of Fritha in 1971’s The Snow Goose, as well as a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress in Equus in 1977.

Dr. Patrick Turner – Stephen McGann
McGann, 55, returns as fan favourite Dr. Patrick Turner in the 2019 series of Call the Midwife.
Prior to his role on the BBC drama, McGann had enjoyed success on ITV soap opera Emmerdale and cop series The Bill.
Miss Higgins – Georgie Glen
One of the original cast members on BBC school drama Waterloo Road, Glen, 62, landed the role of Miss Higgins on Call the Midwife in 2018.
She’s also starred in a number of other British TV shows including Doc Martin, Heartbeat, Doctors, and Les Miserables.
Cath Hindman – Emily Barber
A debutant in season eight, Barber lands the role of newbie Cath Hindman.
Barber’s most notable role to date is arguably in E! network series The Royals as Cassandra alongside Elizabeth Hurley and Joan Collins.
Sister Helga – Fenella Woolgar
Another Call the Midwife newcomer, Sister Helga is played by former Doctor Who and War & Pece actress Woolgar.
The 49-year-old has also starred in ITV series Home Fires and Hulu drama Harlots.
Other actors to keep an eye out for include Linda Bassett (as Nurse Phyllis Crane), Miriam Margolyes (as Mother Mildred), Jennifer Kirby (as Nurse Valeria Dyer), and Judy Parfitt (as Sister Monica Joan).
