GBBO: Dan leaves the tent after pastry week
Stay-at-home dad Dan created a pie in the shape of a fish and although ascetically pleasing, Dan’s filling failed to blow the judges away.
Briony Williams managed to wow the judges throughout the challenges, taking the accolade of Star Baker.
During the episode, the remaining bakers had to take on an Indian signature challenge, a French technical and a majestic showstopper in the Channel 4 hit show.
That was expected. I’ve had some good moments
Speaking of his departure, Dan said: “That was expected. I’ve had some good moments.”
As the baker was reduced to tears, he said:”Sometimes as a stay at home parent, you don’t get to do much but it’s been nice to do something for me.”
Following hte annoucnement, Dan couldbe heard telling the show host, Noel Fielding, 45: "It was a disastrous week though wasn’t it?"
Prue reassured the father-of-two that he was “Such a good baker,” with Paul adding: “I think sometimes pastry can be quite tricky and pastry was Dan’s Achilles heel.”
As Pastry week set in, the remaining bakers had to create their take on the Indian cuisine of a samosa, both sweet and savoury for the signature challenge, with the judges wanting 12 of each.
During the challenge, viewers of the popular baking show noticed something strange about contestant Kim-Joy’s methods.
One viewer wrote: “Did Kim Joy just whip out a biro pen to write equations on her samosas???” expressing their shock at the moment.
One viewer wrote on Twitter: “There are an awful lot of blue plasters in evidence this week,” while another added: “Is it blue plaster week?”
After taking on the first challenge, the contestants then had to face making a Puits D’Amour for the technical challenge.
Stuffed with a fruit compote and vanilla cream, the bakers had to impress the judges with their rough puff pastry treat.
With some bakers impressing the judges more than other, Briony found herself in first place.
Taking on the showstopper challenge, the bakers were tasked with creating a majestic pie, creating their own fillings and decorating the pastry marvel.
The pair were in tears as they bowed out in the tents first ever spice week, with Kim-Joy being awarded Star Baker.
Next week, the remaining bakers will be taking on the first ever Vegan Week for the Great British Bake Off.
Great British Bake Off 2018 continues next Tuesday on Channel 4 at 8pm.
