Coronation Street spoilers: Jim McDonald makes long-awaited return delighting viewers
CORONATION STREET aired the long-awaited return of mischievous Jim McDonald at the end of tonight’s first visit to Weatherfield, surprising both characters and viewers of the ITV soap.
Coronation Street: Jim returns from prison
It’s been teased for a weeks but tonight, Jim (played by Charles Lawson) walked into the Rovers Return as the character returns to Coronation Street.
Jim has been serving time in prison after he tried to rob a bank in an attempt to get enough money to buy the Weatherfield local.
The character has made a number of appearances since his sentence began, making enemies and pushing his family away in the process.
However, he could be set to make amends as the Irishman entered the Rovers with his ex-wife Liz McDonald (Beverly Callard) serving behind the bar.
Oh my god
Before walking through the doors, Jim’s son Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) was enjoying his stag party although he was unaware of the plans.
While everyone was laughing away, an unexpected visitor would bring the occasion to a sudden end.
Clearly unwelcome, the pub fell silent as Jim walked in with a walking stick in hand, having been diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy while behind bars.
Liz was the first Weatherfield resident to break the silence: “Oh my god,” she said, clearly shocked by her ex’s arrival.
“Hello,” Jim said as if everything was ok, with Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) sat at the bar saying: “Oh no.”
Trying to break the ice with his son, Jim asked Steve: “What about you Steven?” With no reply, he posed the same question to Liz.
Viewers were glad to see the mischievous character back on the cobbles and took to Twitter to voice their delight at the character’s long-awaited return to the ITV soap.
One viewer wrote: “Look out Steve Daddy's home #Corrie.”
“Ooh Jim’s back from the big house #Corrie,” a second added, referring to Jim’s spell behind bars.
A third commented: “Don't think Jim is going to get the warm welcome he thinks he will get! #Corrie.
While a forth stated: “Yay! I had forgotten that Jim was coming back! #Corrie,” delighted at Jim’s comeback.
Welcoming back the character, another viewer wrote: “Welcome back Jim McDonald @charlie_lawson1 @itvcorrie #Corrie #Jim.”
Adding to the delight, another commented: “Love it when big jim returns in Corrie.”
Can Jim win his family round and how long will it be before he divulges his bombshell secret?
Jim’s return will prompt the introduction of Hannah (Hannah Ellis Ryan) his and Liz’s daughter who they believed had died at birth.
Hannah’s appearance will send shockwaves through the street as Liz discovers the truth about what really happened when she gave birth to her daughter?
Coronation Street continues tonight at 8:30pm on ITV.
