Wanderlust on BBC: ‘Utter filth’ Viewers stunned by raunchy Toni Collette sex scene
WANDERLUST premiered on the BBC last night and those tuning into the new series were left stunned by the number of raunchy sex scenes which took place.
BBC Wanderlust sees a couple try to rekindle their sex life
Wanderlust, which debuted on Tuesday night, included the first female orgasm to be shown on the BBC.
Those tuning into the six-part drama were shocked by the scene and many took to Twitter to comment on the opening episode, with one branding it “utter filth”.
In the first instalment, Joy (played by Toni Collette) told her husband Alan (Steven Mackintosh) she wanted to have sex with other people.
The announcement came after viewers watched the pair try to have sex in very awkward opening scene.
The pair eventually gave up and Joy performed a solo sex act, with her son walking in on her.
But that wasn’t the only scene which left viewers stunned.
Later in the episode, Joy meets a man in her swimming class and the pair enjoy a steamy romp, with her orgasm being included.
Fans of the new series rushed to social media to comment on the scene, with one writing on Twitter: “What is this utter filth I’m watching on Her Majesty’s BBC1? #Wanderlust.”
Another added: “Not awkward at all watching #Wanderlust with your Mum!”
“My windows are open, my neighbours must think I'm watching porn, with the moaning & groaning in #wanderlust bbc,” a third wrote.
BBC Wanderlust: Joy and Alan open up about intimacy issues
Ahead of the episode, actress Toni opened up on the racy scenes and her nerves about stripping off for the series.
“You can’t half-heartedly act sexual scenes, you have to make it feel real, because you can tell when you’re watching something if it’s not energetic,” she dished.
So, I was nervous at first but it's such a part of Joy and Alan trying to find a way of making their relationship sustainable and I guess the more steeped I was in the story the easier it became, to be honest.
"By the end of it I had no concerns about it. It's just these people and what they are going through.
“It’s part of a larger journey. It's part of the character's arc and narrative, so it's not gratuitous in any way. It's very much part of what they're exploring and feels quite natural, as it should.”
It seems the racy scenes won’t be restricted to episode one either as the Joy and Alan continue to sleep with new partners.
The synopsis for episode two of the drama reads: “Joy and Alan put their daring plan into action with surprising results, but how will other people react when they are told the truth?
“Tom shocks best friend Michelle with a peculiar proposal.
“A disastrous date for oldest daughter Laura ends with a shocking revelation.”
Wanderlust continues on BBC One on Tuesday at 9pm.
