THIS MORNING viewers were sent into meltdown when former Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly made an appearance on the sofa talking about her upcoming crime documentary series.
Katherine Kelly opens up on possible Corrie return
Katherine, 38, was on today’s edition of This Morning to discuss her new role as the presenter of a crime documentary series.
Sitting alongside Eamonn Holmes, 59, and his co-star Ruth Langsford on the ITV programme, the star admitted she was wary about taking on the role.
“I really take my hat off to you guys because I find it really unnerving being myself,” Katherine admitted.
However, viewers were more taken aback by the actresses accent than her new role.
Wow Katherine is very posh sounding
Taking to Twitter, viewers of the show were quick to pint out how different the actress sounded from her Coronation Street character, Becky McDonald.
One wrote: “Wow Katherine is very posh sounding. Very different to how I remember her on #corrie #ThisMorning.”
“Stop talking posh Becky #ThisMorning,” a second demanded.
“Katherine Kelly's hometown is Barnsley. Is Barnsley a suburb of Chelsea then? #ThisMorning” a third commented, referring to the likability of her accent to the stars in the reality TV show Made In Chelsea.
A fourth added: “Katherine Kelly obviously has the same vocal coach as Robson Green. #thismorning”
Katherine went on to talk about how different she is from her characters in her previous roles.
The actress will be presenting in her new role which is a new realm for the Coronation Street star and she even admitted that she said no to begin with.
“Even with my acting career, I’m more comfortable playing extreme characters,” the actress confessed referring to her presenting debut.
Ruth and Eamonn then went on to joke that she was married to Rylan Clark-Neal, 29 as it sounds very similar to the name of her husband husband Ryan Clarke.
“I think he was alerted on Twitter he’d (Rylan) married me and was a bit surprised he’d made that life choice,” the actress joked.
As the interview came to a close, Ruth asked if Katherine would ever return to Coronation Street.
This Morning: Katherine Kelly discusses new crime series
“It’s been 7 years now,” the actress said, reflecting on her time away from the cobbles.
“The thing is I don’t quite know how we’d do it.
“She was a first, kind of the first ladette on the street,” the actress admitted. “She was a caricature and times have moved on since then.”
Becky left Weatherfield in 2012 when she wanted to begin a new life in Barbados having been through a turbulent relationship with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).
There were hopes that Katherine would return as the Weatherfield rebel when her adoptive mother Hayley Cropper (Julie Hesmondhalgh) and sister Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) passed away but unfortunately Becky didn’t return.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.
