'No more patience' Italian MEP calls on Brussels to give SOLUTIONS to migrant crisis
THE EU needs to find solutions to the migrant crisis, Italian MEP Tiziana Beghin has claimed, after EU leaders met to discuss the issue.
Tiziana Beghin: We need solutions to the migrant crisis
Italian MEP Tiziana Beghin, who represents the 5 Star Movement was discussing the migrant crisis in a debate on France 24.
She warned European Union leaders, who met on Sunday to discuss the ongoing issue, that tangible solutions needed to be developed because Europeans were running out of patience.
Ms Beghin said: “I think the citizens are not patient any more, but we have also shown our solidarity in the last years.
“Also, we think we need to have some short and mid-term measures - and long-term measures also.
“It is the only solution.
“What we have seen now is that there are no solutions.”
EU leaders met in Berlin over the weekend for a mini-summit on the migrant crisis after the issue threatened to break up German Chancellor Angela Merkel ruling coalition.
The EU leaders proposed creating “reception,” or “welcome,” or “disembarkation” centres outside the EU for processing migrants who are rescued or intercepted at sea.

They also agreed strengthening EU border patrol operations was vital, with an additional 10,000 guards deployed by 2020.
The European Commission said further steps need to be taken to address the issue of “secondary movements” — migrants who register in one EU country, but then end up crossing into another.
A missive from the Commission added: “More also needs to be done to ensure a reinforced, more coherent and effective common European return policy.
“The European Council therefore welcomes the intention of the Commission to swiftly make a legislative proposal to this effect.”
