Australian man charged over ‘trying to supply weapons as North Korea agent'
A SYDNEY man has been accused of supporting North Korea by brokering sales and discussing the supply of weapons of mass destruction, Australian police have confirmed.
The charges are the first of their kind in Australia, it has been reported
“Any individual who attempts to fly in the face of sanctions cannot and will not go unnoticed in Australia.”
A statement from the AFP read: “As a result of extensive investigations, the AFP alleged the man was acting as an economic agent of North Korea through his facilitation of various exports from North Korea.
“The AFP believes the man was generating income for the North Korean government.”
The man is expected to face Parramatta Bail Court later today.
The news comes as tensions are running high between North Korea and Australia.
Earlier this year, North Korea said Australia will not be able to “avoid disaster” if it joins the “frenzied provocations” of the US.

The warnings come as Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop and Defence Minister Marise Payne’s visited the demilitarised zone between South and North Korea in October.
The North Korean state-run news agency KCNA warned against joining the US and said: “Showing dangerous moves of zealously joining the frenzied political and military provocations of the US against DPRK.
“Should Australia continue to follow the US in imposing military, economic and diplomatic pressure upon the DPRK despite our repeated warnings, they will not be able to avoid a disaster.”
This is not the first time North Korea has levied threats against Australia.
In April and August, the reclusive state said Australia’s alliance with the US was a “suicidal act”.
But Australia Defence personnel Dan Tehan said the Commonwealth country would not be bullied by Kim Jong-un’s despotic regime.
