PRESIDENT Trump has welcomed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the White House as the pair discuss future relations between their countries.
Trump praises Erdogan: Turkish courage in war is legendary
President Trump opened the meeting by heaping praise on Turkey.
He said the nation is a "bastion against Soviet expansion" and that "Turkish courage in war is legendary".
He said: "The American and Turkish peoples have been friends and allies for many, many decades.
"Turkish soldiers fought bravery alongside US soldiers in the Korean war and we haven't forgotten what they did."

Trump also revealed the Turkish ordered "military equipment" in the US, during the visit.
President Erdogan returned compliments to President Trump praising him for his campaign to become president.
He said the two countries enjoyed an "outstanding" relationship on his first visit to Washington.
He said Turkey and US stood alongside one another under the roof of Nato, the UN and G20.

President Erdogan said his visit "will mark a historical turn of the tide".
Erdogan said the pair agreed on working together on energy, economy and terror.
He said the relationship will be "very important for the rest of the world".
The pair said they will combine on the threat facing world peace from terror organisations, especially in Syria.
President Erdogan said Turkey is "committed to fighting all forms of terrorism that pose clear and present threat to our future".
The Turkish leader said the YPG, which is supported by the US, will never be accepted.
President Erdogan also said he has outlined his expectation Fethullah Gulen will be extradited back to Turkey after the failed coup of July 2016.
Mr Trump did not indicate whether this was accepted by the US.
Gulen is accused of masterminding the attempted coup by President Erdogan.

The Turkish president said the relationship with the US in Syria is of "vital importance" to Turkey.
He said: "We have taken into consideration joint steps we can take in Syria and Iraq.
"Of course President Trump's recent election victory has led to the awakening of aspirations and hopes in our region.
"And we know by help of the new administration these hopes will not be lost in vain.
"We find it was the most necessary answer to be given to the Syrian regime, especially in the aftermath of the gas attacks which took place
"We will not repeat the mistakes of the past. We will continue down this path together."
President Erdogan said the meeting set the "foundation of new era of relations between the two nations".

In an unusual move there were no press questions taken at the end of the conference.
President Trump said the pair "had to go to meetings".
President Trump said he would begin to speak with "as many nations" as possible to join his fight against terror, alongside Turkey.
