REPUBLICAN candidate for the French presidency, Francois Fillon, has been left covered in flour after being attacked by a "lobbyist" at an event in Strasbourg.

Francois Fillon has been left covered in the white powder after an event in Strasbourg.
Mr Fillon was arriving for a rally when he was covered in flour.
The attack was caught on the French television channel BFMTV.
People have taken to social media with the hashtag #FillonStrasbourg to discuss the attack.

According to French media, a young man shouted “lobbyist” before throwing the flour.
The man who did it was wearing a t-shirt “students with Fillon” to pretend to be a supporting activist.
Fillon was cleaned up before he took to the stage.
The attacker was taken away by security.
Reacting to the incident, Mr Fillon said: "I hope at least the flour was French".

In March, one of his rivals Emmanuel Macron was attacked with an egg when he was on the campaign trail.
The French-presidential hopeful was hit with a scandal after accusations that he had paid his wife for doing a job she did not do.
Mr Fillon’s wife, Penelope, has been charged with embezzlement of public funds, misappropriation of public funds and aggravated fraud after it was claimed she had been paid hundreds of thousands of euros for an alleged ‘fake’ job as her husband’s parliamentary assistant.
Mr Fillon took part in the second television debate for the French presidential candidates on Tuesday night.
