DRAMATIC scenes are unfolding in France as bomb squad officers surround a central square in Montpellier.

A police cordon has been put in place around the Place de la Comédie.
The object being examined is an abandoned blue rucksack, which is close to the tourist office.
Officers were called in around 5.45pm local time.

Montpellier, France’s fastest growing city, is in southern France, six miles inland from the Mediterranean coast.
France’s parliament voted in December to extend the national state of emergency until 15 July, following terror attacks and threats.
