Mexico in US LAND GRAB as senator threatens Donald Trump’s border wall
MEXICO will demand the return of almost 85,000 hectares of land it lost in an historic border deal if Donald Trump presses ahead with his controversial wall.
Mike Pence says Mexico WILL pay for border wall
Chihuahua Senator Patricio Martínez García insists there was an error when the borderline was drawn up meaning the large chunk of Mexican land has remained US territory for more than 100 years.
He said a topographic study would confirm the border has been wrong since the times of President Porfirio Díaz who held office between 1876 and 1911.
Senator Martínez García said: “If Trump intends to build a wall, it will have to be where the real border is. It will have to be somewhere else because the current borderline is wrong.
“You can not build your wall here because this is not your borderline!"
Mexican border/Donald Trump
A Mexican Senator has cast doubt on the accuracy of the Mexico/USA border
You can not build your wall here because this is not your borderline!
“This error is not new, it dates back to Porfirio Diaz. We will provide technical data next week.
"I am asking for an engineering company with a specialisation in modern topography to confirm that what I say is in fact correct and accurate.
"Meridians and parallels of the treaty are different from those on the border."
A new sign showing the Mexican border
The senator said he will pay for the study to confirm the US wrongly claimed about 8,000 hectares in Chihuahua and 75,000 hectares in the state of Sonora.
He said: “If this study serves as an element to stop the aggression of the US then it is not expensive and I will gladly do it.”
Sen Martínez García said he was concerned about the aggression of Mr Trump’s wall plan and also that it "denies principles with which we have been working in the last years".
There is already a wall along parts of the border
He said: ”As a product of the war and the US invasion, the country was forced to sign the treaty that gives them territory not only from Texas but also from New Mexico, Utah, Nevada and California.
“The treaties fixed precisely and accurately with undisputed engineering topography where the border line should go.
“But it is not where the two countries agreed.”
