Dr Nash, who had been married to his wife for nearly 60 years, suffered from paranoid schizophrenia in the 1950s and 1960s, a condition which he recovered from.
He, and his wife, went on to become campaigners for mental health.
He was also one of the finest mathematicians in the world, and won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994 for his work on Game Theory.
