Iran war LIVE: Tehran rages ahead of deadline by threatening 'surprise' for Trump
Donald Trump previously warned Iran could be "taken out in one night".
Trump will 'unleash hell' on Iran if they do not comply
Iran has launched a furious outburst just hours before Donald Trump's chilling deadline ends, warning it has "prepared a black hole for him from which it will be impossible for him to get out".
Responding to a question from the Tasnim News Agency about Iran's responses to Trump possibly targeting power plants and other centers, an informed military source noted: "Trump's threats are more due to his desperation and helplessness and Iran's authority in the field than to his initiative and power. But if Trump wants to fall from one hole to another with his madness, we have prepared a black hole for him from which it will be impossible for him to get out." He added: "We have prepared some nice surprises for Trump's possible madness; one of them is the addition of Aramco oil facilities, Yanbu oil facilities, and the Fujairah pipeline to Iran's targets, and in the event of Trump's crime, Iran will not hesitate to impose heavy costs on the United States and its partners." Trump had warned a "whole civilisation" could "die tonight" should Iran not comply with his demand to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Taking to Truth Social on Easter Sunday, the US President had set Iran a deadline of 8pm ET tonight (1am BST Wednesday) to make a deal with the US or else face "living hell".

He wrote on Truth Social: "A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.
"However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?

The former counterterrorism chief of Donald Trump said the US “stands in danger” after the president's latest threat to Iran.
He said on X: “If he attempts to eradicate Iranian civilisation, the United States will no longer be viewed as a stabilising force in the world, but as an agent of chaos — effectively ending our status as the world’s greatest superpower.
“This would upend our economy and shatter the global order. The process is already under way, yet we still have time to avert catastrophe if Trump finds the courage to pursue serious negotiations rather than reckless rage and destruction.”

JD Vance says Iran conflict could end ‘very shortly’ but ultimately 'up to the Iranians”.
Vice President JD Vance said during a news conference in Hungary that the conflict with Iran could end “very shortly”, but added that “the nature of the conclusion is ultimately up to the Iranians”.
Speaking alongside Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Vance said discussions had centred on what the situation would look like afterwards.
“The president has set a deadline for about 12 hours from now in the United States,” he said. “We’re going to find out, but there’s going to be a lot of negotiation between now and then, and I’m hopeful that it gets to a good resolution.”

U.S. carried out strikes on Iran's Kharg Island overnight, U.S. official tells NBC News
A US official said the American military carried out overnight strikes on dozens of Iranian military targets on Kharg Island.
The operation involved airstrikes along the northern side of the island and did not include any US troops on the ground. According to the official, the strikes targeted military bunkers and storage sites, air defence systems and other military facilities, rather than oil infrastructure.
The official said all of the sites hit were military targets, many of which had already been struck previously. On March 13, President Donald Trump said the US had “totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island”.
Kharg Island is a major oil export hub for Iran and has previously been discussed as a possible location for a US ground operation.
The official emphasised that the latest action was not aimed at oil facilities, ahead of Trump’s deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face attacks on its infrastructure.

Iran warns fuel supplies could be disrupted ‘for years’ if Trump targets infrastructure
Iran has warned that fuel supplies could be disrupted “for years” if President Donald Trump follows through on threats to target power plants and bridges should the Strait of Hormuz remain closed.
In a statement carried by several Iranian media outlets, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it would “deprive the US and its allies of the region’s oil and gas for years” in response.
The group also issued a fresh warning to Gulf Arab states, saying: “We have exercised great restraint and had considerations in choosing retaliatory targets, but from now on all these considerations have been removed.”
Close to conflict that 'cannot be controlled', says Quatar
Majed al-Ansari, Qatar's foreign ministry spokesman, said
"We have been warning since 2023 that escalation left unchecked will get us into a situation where it cannot be controlled, and we are very close to that point, and this is why we have been urging all parties to find a resolution to find a way of ending this war before it’s too late."
Why is Kharg Island so significant?
Kharg Island is strategically important because it is Iran’s main oil export terminal, handling around 90 per cent of the country’s crude oil shipments. Much of Iran’s oil is stored, loaded and exported from the island, making it a vital part of the country’s economy.
Its location in the northern part of the Persian Gulf also gives it major military importance. The island sits close to key shipping lanes linked to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes.
Because of its role in both oil exports and regional security, any attack on Kharg Island can have wider consequences for global energy markets and tensions in the Middle East.

Explosions reported in the last hour
Mehr News Agency claimed the US and Israel carried out an attack on the island within the last hour, although there has so far been no immediate confirmation from either the Israeli or US military.
The US targeted military sites on the island in mid-March after warning it could strike Iran’s oil infrastructure if Tehran continued to block the Strait of Hormuz.
At the time, President Donald Trump said US forces had “obliterated” every military target on the island, while leaving its oil infrastructure intact.
