A terrifying video has emerged showing a group of brave fishermen facing Hurricane Milton as it travelled from Mexico to Florida

The fishermen were reportedly off the coast of the port of Celestun - one of the worst-hit areas of Mexico - on the boat "Tropoli" when they were surprised by the storm.

Fortunately, all of the crew members were able to return to shore safely. However, others weren't so lucky. According to local media, Milton hit four small boats, leaving 15 fishermen missing.

Fears are now rising over the safety and whereabouts of these fishermen as their vessels had not been found as of Tuesday morning.

Elsewhere, in Yucatan, four crew members of the fishing boat Neldy arrived back home safely after being stranded at sea due to Milton.

Their boat was escorted back to the port of Yucalpeten by the ship Tepakan III, with a crew of fishermen risking their lives to find the others.

The returning fishermen were greeted with hugs, cheers, and tears from their families, who expressed their gratitude to the rescuers.

The Neldy had been missing since last Monday, trapped in the storm as it moved from Mexico to Florida, but was eventually able to turn on its sat nav and send it coordinates on Tuesday.

Then on Tuesday afternoon, the rescue team of 11 fishermen set out to find the missing men, whose boat had suffered engine damage and began to fill with water.

Hurricane Milton Barrels Into Florida

Hurricane Milton devastated parts of Florida overnight with heavy winds and a huge storm emerging. Multiple deaths have already been confirmed, after a series of tornadoes destroyed homes and flattened communities across the state.

The storm made landfall as a Category 3 Hurricane. Milton dropped to a Category 2 hurricane as it tore through the centre of Florida, and officials fear the death toll will only rise.

Flooding has hit several areas with rivers including the Hillsborough River, St John's River, and Little River in a "major flood stage", according to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
