Prince Harry opened up about an American tradition he and his wife, Meghan Markle, wanted to keep at their wedding - but according to him Prince William and Princess Kate had other plans.

In his 2023 memoir, Spare, Harry delved into this rift, revealing his perspective on the decline of the relationship between the former foursome.

He expressed his disappointment over the lack of a stronger bond between his wife, Meghan, and his brother, Prince William, along with his sister-in-law, Princess Kate.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were still living in London, the two couples agreed to meet and discuss their issues, hoping to find a solution. Harry claimed that, a notable point of contention, was an incident at his wedding.

Harry claims that William and Kate switched name cards to alter the seating arrangements.

Describing a meeting that took place at Kensington Palace in June 2018, Harry wrote: "For our part, we chipped in that we weren't too pleased when Willy and Kate switched place cards and changed seats at our wedding.

"We'd followed the American tradition, placing couples next to each other, but Willy and Kate didn't like that tradition, so their table was the only one where spouses were apart.

"They insisted it wasn't them, it was someone else. And they said we'd done the same thing at Pippa's wedding. We hadn't. Much as we'd wanted to.

"We'd been separated by a huge flower arrangement between us, and though we'd desperately wanted to sit together, we hadn't done a thing about it. None of this airing of grievances was doing us any good, I felt. We weren't getting anywhere."

After returning from their honeymoon, Harry and Meghan met with William and Kate for a reconciliation tea at Kensington Palace.

During this meeting, Harry claims that tensions rose when Kate confronted Meghan over a remark she had made, accusing her of making a "baby brain" comment.

Princess Kate reportedly said: "You talked about my hormones. We are not close enough for you to talk about my hormones."

Harry recounted that Meghan seemed taken aback by the accusation and explained that it was simply the way she communicated with her friends.

He also alleged that William's reaction escalated the situation, as he reportedly pointed at Meghan, called her "rude," and said that her behaviour was not acceptable in Britain. In response, Meghan firmly told William to "take your finger out of my face," according to Harry's account.
