The Skeena train is a well-kept secret of Canadian rail travel, which operates between Jasper in Alberta and Prince Rupert on the Pacific coast.

Covering 725 miles of breathtaking scenery, this two-day journey requires an overnight stay in Prince George and offers passengers a chance to glide through the majestic Rocky Mountains and even spot the highest peak of the range- Mount Robson.

The Skeena is especially renowned for its viewing car characterised by a domed panoramic glass ceiling, allowing travellers to immerse themselves in the stunning vistas.

Stopping at more than 30 stations between Jasper and Prince Rupert, the route passes through Moose Lake and the Cariboo Mountains, through the rugged wilderness of British Columbia, with views of towering peaks, serene lakes, and forests dotted with the iconic Douglas fir.

One can even catch glimpses of fauna, including reindeer, bald eagles, elks, and the occasional brown bear.

Passengers are provided with three-course meals, hot and cold drinks on call, and a well-functioning bar with wine service.

The train also serves as a crucial lifeline for the indigenous communities, providing essential transportation in remote areas.

A Tripadvisor user said: "The journey beyond is magical... canyons, trestle bridges, tunnels, thundering rivers and glimpses of Indigenous communities make it a memorable trip."

A unique feature of the Skeena is that locals, including farmers, fishermen, and even hikers, can wave it down along the route - and the train has to stop, even if it is between stations.

VIA Rail’s Skeena promises a rustic and comfortable travel experience, where one can witness some of British Columbia’s most picturesque landscapes, all cosied up, a glass of wine in hand.
